Flinder’s Self-Management model

Flinder’s Self-Management model was developed by Dr. Malcolm Battersby and his colleagues at Flinder’s University in Adelaide, Australia. The Flinder’s self management model has the capability of enabling the clinician to utilise measurement over time to determine changes and also has predictive ability (See Figure 1). The Flinder’s self management framework underpinned by the principle of cognitive behavioural therapy and a model which focus on one-on-one model with interventions/actions in the care plan streamlined to the determined needs and priorities of the individual. Flinder’s Self-Management framework gives a structure and patient-oriented model for collaborative issue definition, setting of goal, planning of care and monitoring between an individual and the health care provider.
The Flinder’s Self-management model has been developed a generic set of instruments and processes which enables clinicians and their patients to have a structured process which permits for assessing of self-management behaviors, collaborative identification of issues as well as goal setting which leads to the enhancement of individualised care plans. Such care plans are essential cornerstones in improving self-management in individuals with chronic conditions. These instruments include the Partners in Health Scale, Problem and Goals assessment and Cue and Response Interview (Flinder, 2008). The Flinder’s model has six principles, the first is to know the individuals condition, have active involvement in line with decision making with their general practitioner or healthcare providers, follow the care plan in which the individual have agreed with their general practitioner, monitor and review symptoms linked with the conditions and immediately respond to and handle the symptoms, control the social, emotional and physical effect of the chronic conditions on the person’s life and to live a healthy and better lifestyle

Competition of TV Networks

There are different television networks and even television programs who are directly competing with each other. The competition ranges from the television programs to be aired to the quality and of course the price and cost. As of now competition between Direct TV vs. Dish Network are very much considered because of the strong target hold of these satellite TVs and in order for them to survive in this competition, they are able to promote their networks differently. These two offer similar services but despite of that, the management sees to it that they will have competitive edge in the TV market.

National Chronic Disease Strategy

The National Chronic Disease Strategy or most commonly regarded as The Strategy gives more focused on system-level change from various perspectives. Herein, considerable activity is already happening in relation to the prevention and care of chronic disease across Australian jurisdictions. The Strategy intends to guide policy development and service enhancement as well as direct the development and execution of action plans which are being streamlined to meet the requirements of the local jurisdiction. The Strategy along with Blueprint and Frameworks share some common theme such as focus on health promotion, its prevention and monitoring the trends of population in chronic disease factors, advocating combined service provision as well as multidisciplinary care, supporting and promoting self-management within the Australian health system, progressing approaches to enhance quality of care and enhancing access to prevention of chronic disease and care services by Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal people and other under-serviced population groups. As an umbrella approach for chronic strategy, The Strategy widely covers the continuum of the prevention and care of chronic disease, specifically the prevention all over the said continuum, chronic disease early detection as well as early treatment and the combination and continuity of care and self-management.

The vital pats in the Strategy reflect the requirements for service improvements at all degrees of Australian health system. In addition, The Strategy, do not intend to be prescriptive regarding how the vital directions are to be initiated, nor it is developed to give detailed coverage on various aspects of prevention and health care. The Strategy has jointly been established by all jurisdictions in all local regions through the National Health Priority Action Council (NAPC, 2008).

CMS: Database and storages

Content management system needs different database and storages to function. One of these is the MySQL database. It is said that most CMS utilizes datable to store or save content, artifacts and metadata which is needed in the system. Some content are usually stored as XML to control its reuse and enable more flexible presentation options. The stored data can then be added, updated, deleted and retrieved by using SQL commands. A language called Structured Query Language pr SQL is used for issuing commands to retrieve or store data. But to make the application communicate with the database, Java contains some prebuilt facilitator code that allows the application to connect to a database and execute SQL commands against it, it is called JDBC. Java has defined some APIs for connecting to databases that are independent of the database vendors. These APIs contain methods for executing all types of standard SQL commands such as INSERT, SELECT, DELETE and UPDATE. There is another technology used to build web pages more dynamic and operational that is called XML. XML is a set of specifications that can be used for creating new tags to give meanings to data.

content management system

In content management system, content is referred to as any unit or type of digital date or information. As mentioned, content can be images, text, video files, audio, graphics, records, documents and others which can be managed in an electronic format. Hence, having content is very easy. However, what seems difficult is on tagging these contents. Content tagging is considered to be one of the most essential aspect of the online publishing procedure as it permits content editors for extending the labels of reference, its associations as well as the keywords used for search in which any form of content can be seen. During the early times of the World Wide Web, webmasters are able to use common content classification variable and this is the keyword Meta tag. However, in 2005 with the emergence of the technorati, which is popularly known as a blog search engine, a new type of keyword classification was introduced for use of web publishers and allows them to give reference classification terms, for digital and electronic content that they published on the web. In this regard, news articles, stories, photos, audio and sound recordings, video files, presentations and other content can be easily tagged no matter what form of blog or CMS an individual use.
The advantage of this is it provides a wider distribution of some content and more opportunities for those finding the tag. Those tags connected to content are more commonly referred to as rel=”tag” and the hyperlinks they create are intended to be a visible links on posts or pages (Master New Media, 2008). There are various ways on tagging the content, some of the famous blog and content management systems combined a tag box in which to be considered on the tag list. In addition, one can manually add rel tags or by publishing the content through social media sharing site as these publishers support tags.

Simulatin Models

Beefeater simulation is known to be commonly supported by user-friendly information technology simulations, which may be generic or open to public package of materials. Through this, I learn that this simulation model give opportunities to different managers to have their own model and use this as their own. This may also seem to be designed and modified to communicate strategic information which is certain for an organisation. As mentioned above, this simulation model is frequently used as a part of management training and development activities and can also be use in distance learning activities through the use of internet. Beefeater simulation drawing seems to have an essential role to play in promulgating consciousness and awareness of independent resource management complexities and helping people at all departments to rehearse or practice possible features before engaging themselves to action.

Technological advancement such as the use of simulation models in strategy dynamics has change the way contemporary works are done in different organizations. In this regard, people who opt to use these models should be aware that these models are not perfect. Although, there are some models that have the ability to provide all the things a user need for a certain tasks, don’t forget that these models have its own limitation as well. In general, simulation model, like Beefeater Simulation also known as Beefeater Restaurant Microworld, is very useful in system dynamics, specifically in managing complexities and ensuring that the organization is achieving its business goal of satisfying both the investors and the customers and that it must be given enough recognition and assessment so as to improve its functions. It is therefore very significant for a company to determine which simulation models would enable them to gain competitive advantage in the marketplace

Reflection: Beefeater Simulation Drawing

Simulation models are typically designed to capture some underlying mechanism or natural process. They differ conceptually from many standard statistical models (such as linear regression) whose aim is to empirically estimate the relationships between variables. The Beefeater Simulation model (Warren et al, 1996) more commonly known as the Beefeater restaurants Microworld, works on the tenet of balancing the challenges of developing and expanding a business for satisfying investors while maintaining the expected quality of the products and service being offered for the customers. The Microworld is a simulation models which is specified with respect to the functionality of the software, information and interfaced with other computational instruments, just like what can be seen in the Beefeater simulation drawing.
In General, I can say that all activities in the Beefeater Simulation model or drawing are noted to be well-managed and synchronised. Based on the main principle of this model, providing quality products and services among customers is the top priority of this strategy dynamics. The management should follow the whole idea of this simulation model of system or strategy dynamics to meet customer’s expectation,
The Beefeater simulation drawing is said to be easy to access because it provides participants a strategic method of starting a new restaurant chain. It also gives individuals the chance of accepting the challenge in existing business organisations. Furthermore, the Beefeater simulation model can also be noted as an excellent training instrument which explores the dynamic and vigorous resource based view of the organisations as development by Warren. The materials and information that has been illustrated is thus reserved to a minimum within the business requirements, hence, in this idea, the notion of dynamic complexity is well expressed.

Cyprus History

The first Christian emperor of the Roman Empire, Constantine, had established his capital at Byzantium in A.D. 324, which was renames As Constantinople (Istanbul). After his death in 337, Roman Empire has been divided as eastern and western regions ruled by two different emperors. It was cited that In 395, after the death of Emperor Theodosius I, the Roman Empire became totally divided. After 324, Cyprus came under the domination of Constantinople and continued under the Byzantine (eastern) Empire as a province. The history of the island after 324 is overshadowed by the history of the Byzantine Empire as a whole. Cyprus developed a strong Hellenistic- Christian character during the Byzantine Period (Cover et al, 1971).

Cyprus experienced a period of relative cal, before the advent of the Muslim religion in A.D. 625 but in the middle of the seventh century, under the power of Emperor Constans II, the first series of Arab Muslim attacks upon the Byzantine Empire took place. From 647-649 Muawiya, price of Syria and later caliph of the Muslim empire, temporarily conquered Cyprus and laid it under tribute. This assault the lasted over 300 years has made Cyprus an object of argument for the two empires. During this period, the Cypriot revenues have been divided between the Byzantium and the Muslim empire. The island became the base of operations by each side against the other, for the strategic advantage that possession of Cyprus would convey was a clear to both contenders. Because of the storm in 1191, during the Third Crusade, Byzantine control over Cyprus finally ended (Cover et al, 1971). King Richard I of England (the Lionheart) laid siege to Cyprus in 1192, after Comnenus had tried to insult and defied him. It was on the island that he married Berengaria of Navarre and had been crowned the queen of England (Dodd, 1993). Richard only rules Cyprus in just one year and he decided to sell it to the military order of Knights Templars. But the Templars return the island to Richard.

After the conquest of Richard I, the next ruler of Cyprus is a French Guy De Lusignan (Dodd, 1993). Guy De Lusignan rule Cyprus in 1192, as a reward given by Richard I for his assistance in defeating Comnenus. Guy died ruling only for two years, but the installation of the first Lusignan began feudal dynasty that lasted until the end of Middle Ages, for nearly 300 years. The French rulers, had introduce changes in the Cypriot way of life, however historians noted that the foreign elements were eventually absorbed by the traditional Greek culture of Cyprus. The Franks affirmed Latin as the official language and Greek was distinguished as the second official language for the Cypriot. At the end of the nearly 300 year- reign of the French rulers, Venice began to attack the island in 1470, which forces Catherine Cornaro, the Queen of Cyprus to conquer Cyprus. The Venetians were oppressive overlords, handling Cyprus as an outpost of their commercial empire. Cyprus, under the Venetians only became holding operation and the latter did not develop the island under long-term policy goals. Venetian rule over Cyprus survived almost a century until the over-whelming Ottoman invasion has ended it (Rogerson, 1994).

Brief History of Cyprus

Cyprus is located at the Eastern Mediterranean within the boundaries of three continents, the Europe, Asia and Africa. The culture, society and modern political problems of Cyprus and its people has been rooted from its interesting histories way back in 9000 years. Throughout recorded history, it has been located on the frontier between the Eastern and Western civilizations and has participated in the trade that has been carried on and the warfare that has occurred foreign powers confronted each other in the area. The island is small, however, and never has had a large population. As a result, it was nearly always a pawn in both commerce and warfare and was controlled by whatever power was dominant. Cyprus never developed a unified culture of its own, and its people had little background to prepare them to govern themselves or to accept the individual responsibilities involved in self-government when the island was granted independence in 1960. Thus, this paper will discuss about the brief history of Cyprus from the Byzantine onwards. It will also tackle about the history of the two ethnic groups such as Greek and Turks.

This troublesome history that makes Cyprus divided into two regions was being attributed to the Greek and the Turks which conquer the Southern and the Northern part of the island. In more recent times, though never be a part of these two countries, Cyprus has hung precariously between Greece and Turkey. Indeed, the claim of these two ethnic communities on the island harks back to periods in time before the appearance of the Greek of Turkish nation state. The Greek-Cypriots point a Hellenic cultural legacy that stretches back to antiquity and privileges the arrival of Archaeans in Cyprus around 1200 B.C. while the Turkish-Cypriots locate their history in the Ottoman Turks conquering of the island of Cyprus in 1571 (Calotychos, 1998).

Self-Management

In Australia, the National Chronic Disease Strategy has been established to give national policy directions in improving chronic disease prevention as well as care all over Australia. In addition, it is nationally agreed agenda in encouraging coordinated action in response to the growing effect of chronic disease on the health of Australians and their health care system.
The National Chronic Disease Strategy gives a model to strengthen the capacity of Australia to meet the challenges which arise from increasing prevalence of chronic disease in Australia. The NCDS seeks to enhance health outcomes and decrease the effect of these diseases on Australian individuals, communities, families and society (Australian Health Ministries Conference, 2005).
NCDS do this by giving an overarching model of agreed national path for enhancing chronic disease prevention and care all over Australia. As mentioned, one of these strategies is known as self-management. Accordingly, self-management is referred to an approach in which an individual with a chronic disease do to manage and control their well-being and health. It has been widely defined as involving the person with the chronic illness working in relation with their caregivers and families as well as health professionals so that they can identify their condition and different treatment options, to engage these individuals with activities which protect and promote health, to negotiate health plan of care which include care plan, monitor/review plan, evaluate and manage the signs and symptoms of the chronic condition, manage the effect of the condition inline with the physical functioning, interpersonal relationships and emotions and has confidence in the ability of the individuals to use support services provided by the government (Lorig, Gonzales & Laurent, 2006). The overall objective of self-management is to enable people to be informed and become and active participants in their health care and to sustain health and prevent or make the progression of their chronic disease slower (WAGP Network, 2008).
The program of self-management as well as interventions composes of various activities which are supported by peer leaders and professionals and aims to attain the improvement in individual’s healthy life style behaviours, improvement of the person’s health status and the reduction in unplanned utilisation of health service. Furthermore, self-management approached also enable people to have an improved life control and activity, enhanced resourcefulness and satisfaction of life, enhanced communications with the healthcare provides especially with their physicians and improved quality in terms of their relationship with their doctor. Moreover, self-management improves the capacity of the people to take full responsibility for their own health, generate informed decisions as well as undertake the health actions which maximises quality of life and well-being.

Australian Strategy: Chronic Disease

One of the global health issues in the world are known as the chronic diseases. Chronic diseases now have a main impact on Australian society, accounting for about two-thirds of health care expenditure (more than $35 billion) in 2000–01. Being able to realize the danger that these chronic diseases have been bringing to Australian people, the government are trying to utilise various approaches and strategies. It is noted that chronic diseases is considered as large contributors to mortality. The significant contribution has increased relatively over the last sveral years (See Figure 1)
Figure 1:
Trends in major causes of deaths in Australia, 1907 to 2003

Note: Circulatory diseases and cancers refer to chronic diseases.
Source: AIHW Mortality Database.
The statistics show that many people who have chronic disease usually die of another chronic disease as a complication. Hence, the mortality rate should be noted in line with both the underlying and associative causes. In year 2003, the set of 12 chronic diseases are considered as the underlying causes for almost half of the entire death rate in Australia. In addition, these chronic diseases also represent over 25% of the associated causes of death. Five of the entire chronic diseases includes stroke, coronary heart disease, colorectal cancer, lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (See Table 1).
Table 1:
Chronic diseases mortality in Australia, 2003
Disease Number of deaths PYLL (year)
Underlying cause Associated cause
CHD 25,439 20,816 79,323
Stroke 12,240 10,386 24,073
Lung cancer 6,976 550 43,290
COPD 5,378 7,208 13,010
Colorectal cancer 4,447 666 27,698
Diabetes 3,389 8,016 13,188

Osteoporosis 181 1,317 100
Total 51,275 63,464 286,551
Note: *Suicide is used here as an indicator for depression related mortality, since it is commonly associated with depression.
Source:.
In addition, the CHD and stroke were also considered as frequently associated causes of death with diabetes and chronic kidney disease. On one hand, lung cancer as well as colorectal cancer was listed less often as associated causes. Primarily, the main goal of this paper is to provide an analysis of one of the strategies used by Australia in fighting for chronic diseases and this is known as self-management strategy.

4) To learn how to set-up Bipap Ventilation

5) To be able to provide safe, continuing care and monitoring for the patient on Bipap

Welcome and Introduction
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a general condition involving emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthmatic signs and limited bronchial airflow. These health problems are grouped together; thus, a physician who detected one problem in a patient should also check for other related respiratory problems characterizing COPD. According to some descriptions, COPD involves rapid aging of the lungs, wherein the lung capacity of the patient deteriorates at a pace faster than what is normal. The deterioration of the disease is progressive in nature. As the disease progresses, the effect of it to the patient as well as to the family members also increases. Thus, in addressing COPD, the clinical symptoms and problems should not be the only things that should be addressed by the clinician, but psychosocial factors as well.
COPD is acquired by individuals who have been exposed to tobacco smoke. Among smokers, 15% are said to lead to COPD. In addition, passive smoking is also one factor that increases the risk for COPD. Aside from these two risk factors, anti-trypsin deficiency also appears to be a well-known factor that leads to COPD. More specifically, about 1% of the COPD patients have this deficiency. Development of various forms of lung cancer is also possible among COPD patients, and in fact, increases their risk for acquiring the cancer (Anthonisen et al., 1994). Among other risk factors, smoking is the most common and primary cause of COPD. Hence, clinicians should not recognize smoking as a mere risk factor. Instead, smoking cessation should be emphasized in treatment and rehabilitation of the patients (Petty, 1996).
Helping out COPD patients is then an essential duty of the nurses. In addition for managing the patients and addressing their immediate needs, nurses should also be aware of the different gadgets and methodologies that will assist the patients’ recovery and treatment.
Outline the anatomy and physiology of the upper respiratory tract and identify the signs and symptoms of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

• In this part of the discussion, a diagram showing the different parts of the upper respiratory tract will be used to facilitate the description of each respiratory organ.
• After which, the different symptoms and signs that characterize COPD will be identified. The discussion for this part will be divided into early and latter symptoms.

Professional Painters

Having my own house is really a dream come true for me. Actually, I can say that I still have a lot of things to do, especially renovating and painting. Although, i I really enjoy doing home projects, I still find it very tedious and tiresome to do the painting. Oh well, don't get me wrong. I think I just don't have the artistic and aesthetic talent and skills. In this case, I usually hire experts and professional painters to do the job for me. Their skills can match even the most challenging parts of the house. Plus, I don't want to be messy doing it on my own. My friend introduced me with Ann Arbor Painting. Oh, tell you, they have the highly skilled and trained professionals to do the job of painting even at high places. i really love the way they do it. Looking at those painters, you can probably say that it is easy, but when you do it in actual, oh well, the only thing to do next is to stop what you are doing. As they always say, just leave it to the experts. I think the company is only advertising through word of mouth and referrals, so if you are decided to have some painting projects at home, just ask your neighbor who did the painting on their beautiful home.

All about Haiti

Haiti was initially governed by dictatorship. In 1986, Haiti’s dictator Jean Claude Duvalier was removed from the administration. The constitutions were then modified to suit every ruler that led the nation. Currently, Haiti is applying its 1987 constitution which is modeled according to American and French constitutions. Majority of the survey’s respondents stated that Haiti is currently experiencing political instability leading to economic crisis and other related problems. Unstable government results to chaos and problems from various national aspects, which can be a risk to business owners and their businesses

Cost of Living
The cost of living in Haiti is also one of the main risks of establishing small businesses in Haiti. According to the respondents, the problem rose due to the continuous price increases of major commodities and the low wages laborers receive. One source noted that industrial wages are typically low and could reach as low as $2 per day. This is often experienced particularly in the Caribbean area (Microsoft Encarta Online Encyclopedia, 2005). Within the Western Hemisphere Haiti is considered as the poorest country; hence, Haitians’ living involves daily struggles. This then implies how the increasing cost of living affects consumer behavior as well as the stability of small businesses. Stable market establishment also becomes a challenge.

Lack of Electricity
Some resources needed for efficient business operation are also considered as business risks by the survey’s respondents due to inadequacy. One of these resources is the supply of electricity. In fact, Haiti has the lowest energy consumption rate in the world. A hydroelectric plant found in the Artibonite River is the sole local source of energy nationwide. Based on 2002 records, the country was able to produce 618 million kilowatt-hours through imported fossil fuel combustion. Haitians who cannot afford commercial energy resort to charcoal for heat supply (Microsoft Encarta Online Encyclopedia, 2005). This is a big risk for small businesses, particularly those who intends to focus on manufacturing. Constant supply of energy cannot be assured that can greatly affect the business operation.

Colon Cleansers

One of the problems faced by the world today, is in terms of the health of the people. Even if you are on the poverty line or you are a famous individual, you can still have that possibility of having cancers, specifically colon cancers. Good thing there are health care institutions and sites that offer Dual Action Cleanse for colons. This is noted to have a positive effect, especially for us who do not have enough time to go see a doctor for a regular check-up to know if we are healthy, and our colons are healthy as well. So what are you waiting for, go visit the site now and be more health conscious.
